The last time I worked out on a regular basis was probably in high school. I played volleyball and ran track pretty competitively. As a result, I was basically forced to do pretty hardcore workouts almost year-round for four years. To be honest though, I rarely ever did anything over the summer 😊 (Sorry Kinsey and Coach Mo if you’re reading this!)
In college, medical school, and business school, I had random spurts of working out. My IG stories (or SnapChat back when I actually used it) featured my once-a-quarter gym sessions. Last summer is probably the first time in my adult life that I worked out on a somewhat regular basis. I’d go on runs maybe 3-4 times a week. But even then, I’d often make excuses such as “I’m too tired” or “It’s too hot” or “I don’t have enough time.” So, despite my God-given athleticism, I truly haven’t been fit for quite some time.
Recently, a business school classmate chronicled his 50-day fitness journey. He emphasized the importance of not allowing excuses to get in the way of goals. I was really inspired by his dedication to work out for 50 days straight…NO EXCUSES. Now, here I am, on day 7 of my own 50 days, NO EXCUSES fitness journey! I started this journey hoping that I would ignite a new habit within myself. I dream of being someone who works out 5-6 days a week, EVERY week. Seven days into this journey, I’m realizing that good habits truly are formed by repeatedly engaging in the activity.
Don’t get me wrong, this week has not been easy. Because of my internship, writing blog posts, and hanging out with friends, most of my workouts took place between 11pm and midnight. I was EXHAUSTED. But the beauty in it all was I overcame the fatigue and worked out anyway! I’m looking forward to seeing how this NO EXCUSES mindset translates to other parts of my life!
One more thing: a pleasant surprise from my fitness journey so far has been the support from my friends. I’ve even been able to encourage some friends to start their own 50 days, no excuses fitness journey. Like anything else in life, it’s a lot easier to stay motivated when you have a crew of friends or family supporting you and holding you accountable! If you’d like to join in on the journey, leave a message below or @ me on IG in your workout posts! (@atashajordan) Just like everyday life, we’re all on a journey at our own pace and starting from different points. Just because I’m one week in, doesn’t mean that I (and the rest of the #50DaysNoExcuses crew) can’t support you whenever you get started 😊
Peace and blessings,
