To me, Monday was the most relieving part of the residency interview process. Months of waiting and uncertainty came to a close when I learned that I matched! Over the past few months, I interviewed all over the country, met with dozens of faculty and residents, and stressed over making my rank list. For those who don’t know, the rank list is where residency applicants make a list of all the programs they interviewed at, in order of preference. Programs make a similar list based on the applicants that they interviewed. Then, an algorithm matches applicants at one program.
We were supposed to get an email on Monday at 11 am from the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), but at 11:01 there was nothing. I did the only thing I could think to do – I sent out this tweet to the universe:
WHERE IS THE EMAIL?!?!?

First, I told my family. I even called my granny in Tobago a little later on, and she was SO happy!!!
When I called my granny to tell her I matched, I could hear her smiling through the phone. I’ll never forget that 🧡🧡

Next, I told the world on social media! Then I commenced texting my best friends about the news! I proceeded to spend the rest of the day in pure joy and bliss. The outpouring of well wishes and support was AMAZING! I’m still responding to all of the congratulatory messages that I got!
I MATCHED, AND I’M GOING TO BE A PSYCHIATRIST!!!
I can’t wait to share with you all where I end up!
Peace and blessings,
Atasha Jordan, MD (to be)
