Blogging Milestones, Journey with Dr. Jordan

Top 10 Blog Posts of 2019

Through my blog posts of 2019, I’ve continued to reflect on my experiences navigating personal and professional growth as I transitioned from student to doctor. This year on the blog, I’ve written on topics ranging from homeownership and residency applications to imposter syndrome and anxiety. It’s still amazing to me that thousands of people have read my blog posts over the roughly 1.5 years that I have been a blogger!! I started this blog to document my journey and thoughts on my experiences. To know that my posts help you in some way means everything to me.

With that being said, this post will recap the top 10 blog posts of 2019 for my blog! This is completely based on what you all found to be the most interesting, insightful, and/or helpful posts. With no further ado, the top blog posts of 2019 for my blog are…

10. WHAT IT MEANS TO ME TO BECOME A DOCTOR: FAMILY, PATIENTS, AND PERSONAL GROWTH

I wrote this blog post leading up to my graduation from medical school. As someone who wanted to be a doctor since I was 4, it was important for me to reflect on what it meant to be on the brink of achieving that goal! Link

9. 5 REASONS TO CONSIDER CONSULTING AS AN MD

Technically, I wrote this blog post in 2018, but it still was one of the top blog posts of 2019! I spent the summer of 2018 doing a management consulting internship, and it was a huge learning experience for me. Consulting isn’t for everyone, but it’s certainly something to consider as a physician. Link

8. TIPS FOR MANAGING PRE-MATCH DAY ANXIETY: A LETTER TO MY FELLOW RESIDENCY APPLICANTS

The residency interview process was easily one of the most stressful and anxiety-provoking periods of my life. I wrote this letter to others on the residency interview trail, but honestly, it was a letter to myself as well. Link

7. TIPS TO MAKE THE RESIDENCY INTERVIEW TRAIL A FUN PROCESS

Although the residency interview process was stressful because of all the components out of my control, it was also a lot of fun because of the things I could control. I used the residency interviews to explore the US and reconnect with friends from different periods of my life. Link

6. HOW TO POSITION YOURSELF TO BUY A HOUSE BEFORE RESIDENCY

In 2019, I accomplished a HUGE life milestone: I purchased my first home! I am still so proud to have a place that I can call my own. Though medical school can be a very financially challenging period of time, it’s actually still possible to save money to achieve homeownership before (or during) residency! Link

5. 6 QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE IF YOU SHOULD GO TO MEDICAL SCHOOL

Medical school is a life-changing time. It’s a rigorous process that catapults pre-medical students to the life of becoming a physician. At one point or another in medical school, residency, or life as an attending, you’ve probably heard about consulting as a “sexy” alternative career for someone who no longer hopes to pursue clinical practice. 2. OVERCOMING IMPOSTER SYNDROME IN PROFESSIONAL SETTINGS

Have you ever felt as though you weren’t smart enough, accomplished enough, or senior enough to exist in a professional space? I experienced this feeling of imposter syndrome earlier this year, and it was quite a learning experience for me. On Twitter, I was able to have really great conversations with my peers about what it means to feel like an imposter in professional settings. Link

1. COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY TRIANGLE: THOUGHTS BECOME THINGS

One thing I’ve learned as I created this list is that psychology theories are of particular interest to those who find their way to my blog. As a first-year in my psychiatry residency, I don’t have much exposure to psychology and therapy. However, as I advance in my training and learn more about therapy and psychology, I look forward to sharing even more about these topics with you! Link
