It’s becoming more and more common for physicians and other health professionals to be involved in the business side of healthcare. Whether through management, administration, entrepreneurship or public service, health professionals are building our business acumen. There are hundreds (if not thousands) of health professionals in the business world, but many of us have attempted to navigate the business side of the healthcare industry on our own. There isn’t a centralized source of community and information for those interested in both medicine AND business.
That stops now!
White Coats|Black Blazers is a new online community to connect business-minded medical professionals.
The Mission of White Coats | Black Blazers
I started White Coats | Black Blazers to connect medical professionals who are also interested in business.
When I started business school, I was lucky enough to have access to a list of previous Wharton MD/MBAs who are currently practicing or working in industry. On the other hand, I’m contacted by aspiring medical and business students at least once a week as they seek to understand the MD/MBA world. As much as I love to give one-off advice to the students who contact me, I realized that many of the questions I get are the same. I have created a platform where medical professionals at different stages of their careers can find information to help push them forward professionally.
How It Works
There are currently two forums through which you can join the White Coats | Black Blazers community.
Facebook currently serves as our warehouse for articles and advice on career development, graduate degree application processes, and entrepreneurship.

We use Twitter as a forum to engage with other business-minded health professionals in real time! We’ve already connected with MDs and MD/MBAs as far as the Philippines! Twitter is a great way to build your network and learn about the healthcare industry!

How You Can Contribute
Do you write for a blog or news outlet? Be sure to use the hashtags #WhiteCoatsBlackBlazers and #MDMBAChat when you share your posts, and we’ll retweet your posts on Twitter!
Members of the Facebook group can freely post to the group’s discussion board. Use this as an opportunity to ask questions or to find mentors or business partners. Feel free to share your blog posts on the Facebook group as well!
My goal is that this community grows to support and nourish the professional development of medical professionals who want to swap out their white coats for black blazers every once in a while.
Looking forward to seeing how the people in this community change the face of healthcare delivery.
Peace and blessings,
Atasha Jordan, MD (to be)
